Electronic Portfolio
The Electronic Portfolio was created to collect, describe and demonstrate my work and progress throughout the semester. This tool will also be used an archive and repository for future resources and artifacts
During the creation of this project, I have learned of the advantages in using Web publication applications. This tool has presented itself as a valuable resource that can be shared publicly. The use of blogs provides opportunities for collaboration among distant experts and also allow for the discussion of different views in relation to blogged material and content.
The future for this resource is bright. The ease of content transfer and publication allows for quick updates to stay current within an ever changing age of technology. I will continue to use this tool to share my thoughts and knowledge on instructional design and technology. I hope to bring in the opinion of fellow designers and incorporate their knowledge and experience into to an archived blog that will double as a knowledge bank.
Reflections on Theories and Strategies for Active Learning
This project was a summative reflection on theories and strategies used for active learning. This artifact included a list of task I have assigned to students. These assignments were further analyzed to indicate my theoretical approach to teaching and learning.
This project has furthered my understanding of the behaviorist theory and how my instruction is geared towards changing learner behaviors. I believe that adult learning involves a transition in behavior in order to be effective. I believe a lot of adult learners are conditioned to accomplish a task in a certain manner, therefore, when a new concept is introduced; there is a tendency to apply the old behavior to the new concept. This can have benefits and downfalls when learning to integrate technology into classrooms and everyday living.
I will further the level of richness in the content within this reflection. Once this relevance and significance of this discussion is increased, I believe a deeper discussion can develop among researchers, designers and enthusiast.
10 Best Uses for the Internet
This is a Video describing what I consider as the top 10 uses for the Internet.
This project enhanced my understanding of how k12 teacher view the use of the Internet in classrooms.
Reflection on Literacy in the Information Age
This project was a summative reflection on Literacy in the information age. This artifact includes my previous and current perceptions of literacies for the information age.
I know view litearcies as standards for instruction and learning rather than abilities alone. I see these standards as concepts that can enhance the use of technology in classrooms and real world situations.
I will continue to develop similar discussions to gain a deeper level of knowledge pertaining to the Information literacies.
Search and Retrieve
The use of a social book marking tool to create a repository of resources that span from media creation to implementation.
There are more than two search engines on the Internet. Although I will continue to predominately use Google as a major search engine, it was interesting to learn of other search engines that serve specific research purposes.
This resource will grow as I continue to learn of and utilize Web-based resources. I hope to search the bookmarks of individual with similar research interest and incorporate their resources into my own.
Lesson Ideas for Evaluating Information
This is a description of lesson ideas that can be used to incorporate technology into existing lessons.
This was one of the more difficult artifacts for me to create. The incorporation of technology was not the difficult aspect; however, creating a unique lesson from scratch presented problems. Creating lesson plans form scratch is not strength of mine. I credit this to not having to create plans on a consistent basis. However, this experience was still enlightening. It is interesting to view and understand how in-service teachers incorporate technology into lesson originally designed with Web-based components.
I will focus on the construction of lessons plans from scratch. These concepts span across educational and corporate institutions. I believe a lot is left to learn after experiencing this assignment.
Reflections on Safety and Ethics
The Internet is a multi-structured environment that presents several possibilities for immoral behavior and unsafe practices. This assignment gave me an opportunity to reflect on some of the concepts of safety and ethics in Web-communication and research.
As an adult my safety on the Internet is a lower level concern. I have always been cautious when sharing information across the Web. However, I have learned that without proper instruction and a change in student behavior, the social aspects of the Web can consume students and create a dangerous atmosphere. I believe more in training students to properly utilize Internet resources than in filters and blocks. However, until technology literacy is a core course in education, the use of filter and block will continue to be necessary.
I will follow the debate on filtering Internet access in school and public libraries. As I learn about the consequence and generate proposed solutions, I will use this blog to journal my thoughts and opinions.
Professional Resources
This project resulted the generation of a Web resource that could be used learning and training tool.
The most critical part of this project was creating an atmosphere conducive to learning. I attempted to create learning environment that was structured, however, not restrictive to exploration and discovery. The use of media for training and course development can be an intense experience. However, for trainers and developers who are not native to media design, it can also become overwhelming. I wanted to create a resource that introduced the basic and provided resources for users to practice their skills.
Media links can go on forever; I want to continue exploring some of the tutorials on the Web and find those that are relevant to instructional design.
Reflections on Web 2.0 Tools
Web 2.0 allows for Web communication and collaboration. This is my reflections the current state of Web 2.0 and future implications.
I learned that maybe I am getting a little older. The expectations of Web-based social-networking natives of professors and trainers are an eye opener. I believe there are two methods to keep up with this transition. Instructors must keep up with the current growth of Internet usage for education or strengthen their skills and abilities to incorporate various teaching and learning strategies into their instructions. I believe a focus the theories; strategies and models of education will overcome the influx of technological innovations.
I will continue to stay abreast of Web 2.0 develops and incorporate these tools into current training events.
Web-enhanced Learning Lesson Plan
This is a complete lesson plan that takes national education and technology standards into account. This project was difficult in the initial phase. However, this would prove to be the most interesting. This project allowed me to bring theory and practice into a single unit.
I learned to use standards in conjunction with objectives to drive the development of a lesson.
I will continue to collaborate with professional instructors and teacher to further develop my skills in designing lessons.
Weebly
This was the Web-publishing application I used to create, develop and maintain my portfolio. Weebly is a user friendly application with various features to assist in the incorporation of media.
Through Weebly, I learned to utilize YouTube, Jing Project and other resources to develop an instructional resource.
I will continue to post to Weebly. I am currently contemplating upgrading some the options Weebly has to offer.
